Legislative Awareness Day

Thank you to everyone who attended the
Legislative Awareness Day and Luncheon!

Hundreds of families, youth and advocates from across the state gathered together in Albany to deliver a crucial message to our state leaders: put children first in this budget. We understood that the 2018-2019 NYS Executive Budget was written under extraordinary pressure from an unexpected $4.4 billion dollar budget deficit exasperated by pressure from federal tax reforms that hurt NY and attempts to end Medicaid as we know it. We all knew tough decisions were coming, but no one expected that the state would balance the budget on the backs of New York’s most vulnerable children and families involved in the behavioral health, child welfare, and juvenile justice systems. Budgets are a moral document and children are our future. Together we demanded that the state budget reflects that. Put children first. No Cuts. No Delays. Children’s Services today. See the press conference below and the support materials- it’s time to take action!

About Legislative Awareness Day

Each year, Families Together in New York State, a non-profit, family-run organization that strives to establish a unified voice for children and youth with social, emotional, behavioral and cross-systems challenges, hosts a Legislative Awareness Day in Albany. Family members visit legislators to voice their concerns and share their stories, and legislators join families for the luncheon, awards and speakers during the afternoon. The annual event offers a forum to continue the ongoing and vital discussions regarding children’s behavioral health and the need to support families and young people. The goal of the day is to bring family members and advocates from across New York State together to meet with legislators and state leaders and have their voices, concerns and needs heard.
