Youth Power Advisory Council
The Youth Power Advisory Council is a group of young adults who oversee the work the YP network does to amplify youth and young adult voices across systems throughout New York State. The council creates systems change by bringing youth and young adult voices to the highest levels of government. We establish a priority agenda and create community-organizing opportunities.
Why would you want to join the Youth Power Advisory Council?
When you put in the time, you feel the sense of being a part of something big. The network gives young people voice and opportunities to speak to youth, legislators, commissioners and “people in charge.” As a member of the YP Council, you will help to take youth voice to the high levels of government. You can create systems change and improve things for the next generation.
There are many personal benefits to committing yourself to lead our movement. First, it is a good resume builder. The experience you gain helps you build skills and references for employment, college, scholarships, and even awards. You will build public speaking, leadership, advocacy, event planning, and people skills. All of the things you will learn through experience will help you in your personal and professional life.
As part of the YP Council, you will take the lead in advocacy and activism through campaigns, outreach, and systems advocacy projects. As well as, lead in planning our major events such as the FTNYS Annual Conference Youth Track and University of Youth Power.
We are looking for young people ages 18-29 who are/have:
- Passionate about voicing their lived experience
- Dedicated to becoming a leader within their community
- Able to attend monthly virtual meetings
- Have lived experience within a child serving system or a member of an at-risk community (i.e Mental Health, LGBTQ+, Substance Use, BIPOC, Justice Involved, Child Welfare, etc.)
How do you apply to join the YP Council?
To be considered for selection to the council you must submit an application and a Youth Power team member will schedule an interview with you.
