Turning Anger into Understanding: Tools for FPAs Working with Families
Friday, April 17, 2026 @ 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM

This Technical Assistance (TA) call is designed to support Family Peer Advocates (FPAs) in understanding and effectively responding to anger within the families they serve. Grounded in a trauma-informed and family systems approach, the session explores how anger often reflects underlying stress, trauma, and unmet needs rather than defiance. Participants will gain insight into how dysregulation develops in both caregivers and youth, and how environmental stressors, past experiences, and brain-based responses influence behavior.

FPAs will learn practical strategies to support co-regulation, de-escalation, and emotional safety, while using their lived experience to build trust and model healthy expression. Through discussion and guided activities, participants will strengthen their ability to identify triggers, respond to escalation early, and use supportive language that promotes connection. The session also highlights boundaries, safety considerations, and when to connect families to additional supports, equipping FPAs with tools they can immediately apply in their work.
